The Italian Society of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology (SIEDP/ISPED) was born on December 9th 1977 in Padua and joined the members of the Study Group of pediatric endocrinology and diabetology of the Italian Society of Pediatrics (SIP). As its Statute states in Article 1, SIEDP "has the purpose of promoting pediatric studies in the sector and their diffusion, for an always better physical, mental and social health of the child and adolescent".
The small initial nucleus of the founding members has expanded over the years, reaching almost 500 members. At the same time our members have contributed decisively to the development of numerous structures dedicated to pediatric endocrinological and diabetic care in Italy.
SIEDP is governed by a Steering Committee, formed by the President and 6 members (1 Vice-President, 1 Secretary, 1 Treasurer and 3 Counselors); it is organized in Study Groups, which deal with research and scientific updating in the various sectors of the discipline. Steering Committee bodies are the Didactic Commission, dedicated to the supervision of the Company's training activities, the Youth Commission, which has orientation tasks, creation of opportunities in the labor market and selection of young people to be included in the academic path, and the Website Commission, which coordinates the activities related to the Website. The training activity of the SIEDP translates every year into a national refresher course aimed mainly at hospital paediatricians who deal with endocrinological and diabetic problems. Since February 2008, it has been enriched with a new initiative: the School of specialization in Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology. The National Congress of the Society is celebrated every two years.
SIEDP promotes the patient's interests and actively participates in the choices of health policy within the pediatric endocrinology. At the same time it is at the service of its Members, it encourages the participation of new members and supports the initiatives of the national and international scientific community.http://www.siedp.it/
